Ecolodge is an ecological accomodation facilities with cottages located in Bukit Lawang. The programme focused on the development of ecologically managed cottages, restaurant and organic garden. Moreover, other environmental education media and facilities are here maintained and developed.

The Ecolodge Bukit Lawang is designed as a model for a sustainable business. Ecotourism is here promoted in order to protect and to increase the quality of the environment for the guest and for the locals. Situated around 80 km from Medan, the Ecolodge is located in the heart of the tropical rainforest of Gunung Leuser National Park, right at the bank of the river Bohorok.

The Ecolodge offers programmes to enjoy a journey in the tropical rainforest, to observe the sumatran orangutan in the wild and also more than 700 different species, different kind of floras, jungle trekking and rafting, to visit a garden of traditional herbal medicine, to have a taste of organic food or just to experience a calming and relaxing atmosphere in the surrounding of the Ecolodge.

1. The lodge
Our lodge consists of comfortable rooms, each of them with a natural touch and peaceful atmosphere assuring our guests an unforgettable lodging experience.

The arrangements of all 38 rooms are based on the  inspiration of the surrounding nature, each of the room with attached bathroom. Balcony or long and open terraces provides relaxing space for our guests after exhausting journey such as jungle trekking, tubing in the river.

2. The restaurant
The restaurant serves healthy food without any addition of chemical seasoning etc. Most of the menus are traditional menus prepared using any kind of ingredients from the surrounding as well as from the organic garden.

3. Organic garden
The organic garden is an integral part of the Ecolodge, which is managed for providing ingredients for the lodge’s restaurant and not commercialized. Compost from the leftovers of the restaurants is also produced in the organic garden.
All aspects of our activities are based on sustainability and promote well maintained environment.

YEL through its Environmental Education Centre (EEC) Bohorok also promotes awareness towards the protection of natural environment elevating the living quality of its inhabitants.
